There is a dearth of textbooks on neonatal anesthesia as a subspecialty. This novel book helps in filling that gap by discussing various aspects of anesthesia for the newborn, neonate, and the premature in meticulous detail.

The book has several outstanding chapters that provide knowledge regarding the management of everyday simple procedures to the most complex and latest advances in neonatal surgeries, both inside the OR and outside. The case-based discussions make it a very interesting read. It has discussed the increasing concerns of neonatal anesthesiologist regarding the role of anesthetic drugs in the neurodevelopment of the young brain. The chapters on fluid, electrolytes and glucose homeostasis, blood management, on perioperative workup, difficult airway assessment and management, on ventilation strategies, and oxygen therapy help us to be better prepared while treating the neonates.
The book provides knowledge regarding some often-overlooked topics in neonates – pain – assessment and management; palliative care and neonatal rehabilitation, some very rare and uncommon clinical conditions that a neonatal anesthesiologist may encounter, and also discusses ethical concerns in this age group.
